The Project Cross-Pollination Night :: July 30, 2012

Kyle

Spending time: researching and looking deeper into his questions around polymaths, hyper-specialization, renaissance people, and more, with an intention that is growing around the word "nexus" as a working project title.

Barriers: The weight of his past experience, his high sensitivity to his environment (reading too far into things, other stuff like that)

Quotes: "I'm just trying to be present to our process. I know that I'm not back where I was."

"I want this to be an example of what I can be outside of that [past] experience."

Support: We can support Kyle, moment by moment, to stay "present to the process" as he expressed the intention to do. We can also be conversational around the things Kyle is researching and interested in.

Quotes: Emory: "What it would feel like for you Kyle to let it sink in that we're all here to support you to give your gifts?"

Ruben: "I offer you my support, and any time to listen."

Note: Connor took a video that should make it back into Kyle's hands.

Kyle: "I completely trust everyone I've interacted with, even the scrappers."

Ben

Overview, Passion: Kickstarting the commons

Key interest and spending time on: crowdfunding tied to media production

Barriers: personal, stuff from the past, low confidence in his own possibility for success based on recent experience, "identity issues", self-defeating

Support: just getting comfortable working with people again.

Practicing a good fluid social dynamic.

Getting good feedback and insight from others.

Ruben

"I think one of the great abilities of the human is that he can decide beyond his instinct." Ruben

Paraphrase: It's about choice. The structure of my project is an alternative

"I don't want to tell people how to live, I want to show people that there are alternatives."

Spending time: working towards a network of media where people can share those awesome, beautiful things in their lives. Drawing the blueprints.

All kinds of media, not just photography (though that is Ruben's focus)

Desire: for the project to be based on, and exhibit, the values of a new economy that we see, and are a part of, emerging.

"Travel, take pictures, add value to the communities that receive me"

Support: Sharing our stories with Ruben, he would love that

Emory

Spending time: Committed to keeping a dream journal, interested in doing that with others

Spending time writing, chapters of a book? Interested in writing chapters while simultaneously talking with others about that writing that he's doing. Couple hours a day.

Feeling connected to others, through time spent in actively engaging. Supporting others

Fascinated with 9/11 story. Write about it? Present about it?

Keeping in mind the urgency of the situation of the world, designing his own life around that knowledge

Barriers: real-ness on a moment to moment basis. E.g. am I in my body?

Support: asking him lots of questions, feedback for him, being real with him

Connor

Spending time: deeply connecting with everyone in ELL, learning from/with them

Life design: how, when I return to Waterloo after this, could I continue to spend the large majority of my time working on the creative projects of high social value that the lab also aims to produce, instead of going back to a day job?

On top: Design of a 'Commons Design Collective' that can functionally operate when I'm back in Waterloo, which is my main answer to my first life design question. Leapfrog off of the Emerging Leader Labs architecture and perhaps make it an explicit ELL? Could provide a livelihood for me, and others who wanted to join me.

Be a leader in taking the livelihood 'risks' where we are playing with new 'operating systems' for ourselves and for our collective.

Words that speak to the project, and intimately to me:

Betterness, DIY, humanity's next operating system, Open-Source, peer-2-peer, commons, evolutionary, generative, abundant, self-authorship, self-organizing

Barriers: Finding a space for us to use in Waterloo, finding 'source team' type people for the project in Waterloo, taking the right 'risks'/improvisations in my own life to bring the future that wants to be born into being.

Support: Input on ways that I would go about structuring this next project, based on the ways that we are structuring this one, evidence/ trial accounts that this way can work. Sharing in inquiries into topics of "commons-based economics" and "p2p modes of production"

Quotes:  "I don't want money to be a barrier."
